My name is Sarah Mentzer, and I am 21 years old. This is my senior year at URI majoring in Animal Science. I live at home with my parents and my two sisters in Charlestown, Rhode Island. I was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and moved to Charlestown about 10 years ago.
I live right next to Old Coach Horse Farm, and I started riding when I was 14 years old. Horses are now my addiction, I am a riding instructor at Old Coach Farm, and also organize and run a summer horse camp. I never rode competitively, but last year I joined the URI Equestrian Team and started showing. I just accomplished one of my lifetime goals, by purchasing my first horse two weeks ago. His name is Tom, he is a 5 year old Percheron/Morgan cross. Most of my spare time is spent working, teaching lessons, and training my new horse.
I also love to travel last year I went on cruise to Cozumel and Belize. I also went to Ireland with my mother and sister in June and had an amazing time, the country is gorgeous and everyone should visit there in their lifetime.
I know that I am graduating this year, but I’m not completely sure on what my plans are after graduation. After doing the summer horse camp for 5 years it helped me realize that I enjoy working with children and teaching people. So my future plans are to apply to grad school for education, and then hopefully be able to teach animal science
